A few months ago, the elders of the Lebanon Road church of Christ and I met and discussed a theme for 2011. We decided on a theme that was general enough that many different things would fit “under” it, but specific enough to articulate and motivate ideas for the year. Our deacons were told of the theme at our planning session in late September, and were very enthusiastic.
This past Sunday, we “unveiled” the theme for 2011: “Greater Things.” Our thoughts were two fold in choosing this theme:
1. First, “greater” implies that much good has been done in the history of this congregation. And it has! Lebanon Road stands for the truth and has taught so many locally and in other locations. Countless numbers of people have been helped in physical ways and have been encouraged by the members of this congregation. Indeed, good things have been done!
2. But, it also implies that we must continue to stretch ourselves to reach even bigger goals and dreams. As I said in this past week’s bulletin, we cannot “rest on our laurels.” There are thousands upon thousands in our own city who need to know Christ, and it is up to us to teach, encourage, help, and aid.
To help “announce” the theme, two things were done by some of our college students. First, two of our students designed a logo that you see below. Take a few moments and really analyze it, and you will see that they captured so much of this theme in a small space. Carissa and Morgan, you did a great job!
Also, one of our college students put together a video featuring the theme song for the year, “God of This City.” Shane Williams worked for many hours on this video, and I hope you will take 5 minutes to watch it.
Both the logo and the video have been added to our church website’s homepage, so you can see them throughout the year there, as well. Please pray for us as we strive to take the simple words of our theme and make them a reality in and around Nashville in 2011.
