“Greater Things” Thursday #7 – New Members’ Board

[Lebanon Road’s 2011 theme is “Greater Things.” For an introduction to this theme, click here. Each Thursday, we are writing about a work or program that is helping us achieve this goal.]

At Lebanon Road, we are humbled by having new members quite often. We continue to seek to save the lost, so we have baptisms from time-to-time, and we are also honored when a Christian or Christian family decides to make Lebanon Road the congregation they wish to attend.

Keeping up with those changes, though, can be a challenge. Many congregations put a new address and other contact information in the bulletin. Others do nothing until it is time for a new directory. In those years in-between, however, the directory becomes so out-of-date that it is almost not able to be used.

But, if members are able to put in new information, those directories (or cell phone contacts) can remain as up-to-date as possible. That is why we are excited about our new, “new members'” board at Lebanon Road. And I’m proud to say that Leah is one who worked on it!

Leah and our friend Mandi put this board together. It is a simple idea, but one that makes the board so useful. One of our members, Tommy, takes a picture of the new member(s), and gets them printed off. Then, under the picture, a small sleeve contains business-sized cards with the name, address, and phone number of the new member. Members are encouraged to take these cards and use them to update their contacts.

We have just started this, and it has already been a great success! Here are some pictures of the board:

The board can hold up to 8 pictures and sleeves. Hopefully, it will be full soon!

We paid a few dollars for this banner. It was worth the money to have a print shop make the sign, so that it was clear and on high-quality paper.

I guess, since we are striving for greater things, the “greatest” thing would be to need a larger board!

How do you update your members with contact information?

Thanks, Adam. The “new members” board is a work in progress. We are working on finding a better “pocket” for the cards. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them.
