“Whatever makes a man a good Christian makes him a good citizen.”

That statement, spoken by the famous senator Daniel Webster, is a powerful starting place to discuss a work being conducted in the Kingdom today. Campaign: Capitol Hill, a grass roots movement by the churches of Christ. It is designed to bring light to the fine line between politics and religion and to bring awareness to American Christians as to our responsibility to pray for and respect our government while attempting to teach our nation the truths of God’s word. Basically, it is attempting to bring the words of Mr. Webster to life even more today.

That said, Daniel Webster is not the standard for American Christians today; the Almighty is. Scripture tells us that we are to, “Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the King” (1 Peter 2:17). And that, in and of itself, is the launching point for our mission.

Now in its second year, Campaign: Capitol Hill seeks to take God’s word to our nation’s capitol by hosting an open-air meeting on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. Where Martin Luther King, Jr. once stood and spoke of his dream for liberty and equality, our speakers stand and spread the message of liberty and equality in Christ through obedience to His word. And, this year, this endeavor will take place during the month of October with more speakers and topics than the previous, inaugural, year.

The Campaign: Capitol Hill team (consisting of our Director, Jake Sutton; Associate Director, Mike Swims; Media Relations Manager, Lee Snow; and our two Program Directors, Joshua Cantrell and John Dooley) is simply trying to make a conscious effort to preach the Word with love and grace and, in doing so, change the hearts and lives of those who have a role in the government of our country.

During the campaign, our speakers will be set up and preaching to all those within ear-shot of the Lincoln Memorial. Afterward begins the process of distributing the DVD’s to any that are in need, such as our elected officials and anyone else who would like a copy.

But, we need your help too! Namely, we need our brethren to be praying for this effort and spreading the word so that the church is aware that we are attempting this work. Also, if the church is able, financial support is always appreciated as there are many travel, production, and license costs that need to be met. However, our number one priority is to ask for the prayers of our fellow Christians!

If you would like to know more about Campaign: Capitol Hill or would like to contact our team, please take a second to find us online at www.campaigncapitolhill.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/campaigncapitolhill. As always, we greatly appreciate all of the support and encouragement that we have already received and look forward to spreading God’s word to our nation’s capitol this year!
